About the Department
The Department of Computer Engineering at Prince of Songkla University offers graduate programs at both the master’s and doctoral levels. These programs were revised in 2021 to ensure international academic quality and alignment with the rapid development of computer technology. The department emphasizes advanced research and the integration of expertise across five key academic groups:
- Information Engineering
- Computer System Design
- Embedded Systems and Internet of Things (IoT)
- Computer Networks
- Computer Control Systems and Intelligent Systems

Program Educational Objective
To produce graduates with knowledge and skills in computer engineering, particularly in advanced artificial intelligence, who are capable of creating new knowledge or innovations in computer engineering through research processes, integrating them into digital technologies that address societal needs and challenges, while adhering to professional ethics.

Remarks
For both study plans, students are required to present thesis progress reports in each semester as specified by the program committee.
For both study plans, if the program committee and/or thesis advisor determines that a student needs additional background in computer engineering, the student may be required to enroll in related courses on an audit (non-credit) basis to support their thesis work. This is subject to the discretion of the program committee and the thesis advisor. Students must obtain a grade of not lower than “S.”

Student Admissions
Admission Requirements
Applicants must pass both a written examination and an interview, as determined by the Program Committee.
Plan 1.1
- Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in Computer Engineering, Artificial Intelligence Engineering, or a related field; and
- Must meet the English proficiency requirements as specified by the Graduate School for doctoral applicants; and/or
- Must satisfy additional qualifications as follows:
- Have research experience in a related field with academic publications demonstrating research capability; or
- Possess other qualifications as determined by the Program Committee.
Plan 1.2
- Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with excellent academic performance in Computer Engineering, Artificial Intelligence Engineering, or a related field; and
- Must meet the English proficiency requirements as specified by the Graduate School for doctoral applicants; and/or
- Must satisfy additional qualifications as follows:
- Have a minimum GPA of 3.25; or
- Be ranked within the top 33% of the class, certified by the department, program, or registrar; or
- Possess other qualifications as determined by the Program Committee.
Graduation Criteria
Graduation Requirements (Plan 1.1 and Plan 1.2)
- Students must pass the Qualifying Examination to be eligible for conducting the dissertation. They must successfully defend the dissertation proposal and pass the final oral examination, achieving the expected learning outcomes in accordance with the graduate qualification standards specified by the program. The dissertation examination committee shall consist of qualified experts from both internal and external institutions. The examination must be conducted as an open session accessible to the public. Assessment criteria shall include the originality and contribution of new knowledge, as well as the student’s depth of understanding of the dissertation.
- The dissertation or part of the dissertation must be published or at least accepted for publication in high-quality international journals, as specified by the Higher Education Standards Committee, with a minimum of two publications; or
- The dissertation or part of the dissertation must be published or at least accepted for publication in a high-quality international journal, with at least one publication, and must include at least one innovation or creative work that can be applied in commercial, social, or economic contexts, or result in at least one patent;
- In the case of innovation or creative work, the dissertation must be evaluated by at least three external experts in the same or related field who possess recognized expertise and experience. The evaluation must be approved by the University Council;
- Students must pass a foreign language proficiency requirement, in accordance with the Graduate School’s regulations on language assessment for graduate students;
- Students must satisfy all other requirements as specified by the University regulations.
Dual Degree Program (Optional)
- In the case where a student enrolls in the Dual Degree Program (a collaborative program with Kanazawa University, Japan), the doctoral degree may be awarded by both institutions. This must comply with the Graduate School regulations and the formal agreements between the Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology, Kanazawa University, Japan, and the Faculty of Engineering, Prince of Songkla University, Thailand.
